Judy’s recent works include repousse, which is French for “push out”. This process engages both sides of a flat piece of metal that is sunk from the back into either a low or high relief of an image or pattern, then further refined on the front by “chasing” final form and details.
Judy creates repousse home architectural elements in what was once commonplace metal work of an era where craftsmanship meant that objects were permanent and lasting. She is interested in the idea of permanence of objects made to last through time, with a craftsmanship that speaks to the integrity of the maker’s hand.
